How joining works
Why the invite link has no code in it, and what each error message actually means.
Atteny invitations are tokenless by design. The email your new hire gets holds no code and no personal link — only a link to install the app and a web sign-up link. The match happens at sign-up, on their verified email address: the first time they sign in, Atteny looks for a pending invitation for that exact address and builds their employee record from it.
So there's no code to re-read to them, and a stuck new hire is nearly always an address mismatch.
What the claim gate checks
Every first sign-in runs the same checks, in order:
- The account has a verified email address.
- It isn't already a member of a company — one account belongs to one company.
- A pending, unexpired invitation exists for that address.
- Your company's Atteny account is active.
- Your plan still has a free seat, and a free admin or manager slot if they were invited as one.
Only when all five pass is the employee created and the invitation marked Accepted.
What each message means
- "No invitation found" / "No invitation was found for …" — nothing pending matches the address they signed up with. One message covers four causes: wrong address, expired, cancelled, or already accepted. Compare the exact address and its status in Settings → Invitations, then resend or invite the right address.
- "You're already part of an organization with this email." — that account already belongs to another company. They need to sign up with a different email address.
- "Your company's Atteny account is currently inactive…" — nobody new can join right now, and the invitation is not used up. It stays claimable once the account is sorted out.
- "Your team is at its plan limit…" — a seat filled between invite and accept. The invitation stays pending: deactivate someone or upgrade, then have them sign in again.
Two more show up while you're inviting: "An employee with this email already exists in your organization." (check Employees, including deactivated staff) and "This address has been invited several times recently." — five sends per hour per address, so wait a little.
Expiry, resending and cancelling
Invitations last 14 days. A daily sweep marks lapsed ones Expired and sends one reminder email when an invitation is within three days of expiry.

Resend works on pending and expired invitations: it sets them back to Pending with a fresh 14 days. Cancel is final — a cancelled invitation can't be resent, so invite the person again from Invite your team.
