Atteny says it can't check my location
Why a location check is asked for, what happens if you decline, and how to switch it back on.
You tap Confirm Check In and get Unable to Check In — "Unable to get GPS location. Please enable location permissions and try again." The app asked your phone where it is and got nothing back.
Two things before you start. This check only runs at locations where an administrator switched it on, so a colleague at another site may never see it. And the permission lives in your phone's settings, not in Atteny — there is no switch inside the app that turns it back on.
Turn the permission back on
Once you decline, the phone stops asking, so this has to be done in device settings:
- iPhone — Settings → Atteny → Location → While Using the App, and turn on Precise Location.
- Android — Settings → Apps → Atteny → Permissions → Location → Allow only while using the app, and pick the precise option rather than the approximate one.
Atteny only ever asks for while-using-the-app location. Reopen the app and check in again.
The permission is on and it still fails
GPS is rough indoors, in basements and between tall buildings. Step near a window or the entrance and try again.
If you really are off site, the app offers Request Manager Approval after two failed attempts: add a note explaining what happened and select Submit for Verification. Your shift starts, flagged for your manager to review.
Clocking out is never blocked
You'll get Outside Work Location — "You appear to be outside your work location. Your checkout will be sent to your manager for verification."
What is actually recorded
Your position is read once, at the moment you tap — never during your shift, never in the background, never while the app is closed. All that's stored on the time entry is whether the check passed. Your coordinates are not saved. The full picture is in GPS location checks.
