When Atteny refuses a clock-in, the phone app shows Unable to Clock In with a sentence that says why.

Your profile is missing required information#

The message says you cannot clock in yet and lists what is missing. It is shown in English.

Why you see it. Everyone needs a work location on their profile before they can clock in. Where Payroll is switched on, you also need an employment type and a pay group.

What to do. Ask an admin: only an admin can complete them. A manager sees a notice on your profile, but cannot fill it in.

If you are the admin. On the web, open Employees and the person's profile. The notice on the profile has the link Complete setup. See Employee profiles.

You are not assigned to a work location#

You see one of these:

  • The list on the Time clock is empty and reads You're not assigned to a work location yet. Ask an administrator to add one to your profile.
  • The clock-in is refused with Not assigned to that work location. A manager has to add it to the profile before clocking in there.

Why you see it. You can clock in only at a location you are assigned to.

What to do. Ask an admin to add the location to your profile. Only an admin can change which locations a person is assigned to.

If you are the admin. The locations are under Work locations on the person's Employment tab, which is listed while Payroll is on. With it off, open the person's profile and replace personal at the end of the address with employment. See Employee profiles.

Clock-in is turned off for this location#

The message reads Clock-in is turned off for this location. Ask an administrator to re-enable it.

Why you see it. Clocking in from the phone is closed at this location.

What to do. Tell your admin, and ask them to write to Atteny support: see Contacting support. Meanwhile, an admin can start your shift from Who's in. So can a manager who is assigned to your location, where the location lets managers add time entries.

It is too early to clock in#

The message says it is too early and gives the time your shift starts. It is shown in English.

Why you see it. Your location blocks early clock-ins, and you have a published shift there that has not started yet. Asking for a manager's approval does not get round this.

What to do. Clock in again when your shift starts. Your location may allow a number of minutes before the start. To start earlier, ask an admin, or a manager who can (see above), to start your shift from Who's in.

If you are the admin. The switch is Prevent early clock-in on the location's Timesheets tab. Only an admin can change it.

You are already clocked in#

The message reads You are already clocked in. Clock out before starting another shift.

Why you see it. You still have an open shift. A manager may have started it for you, or an earlier shift was never ended.

What to do. Open the Time clock and tap End Shift (if a break is still running, tap End Break first). Where the tag is required, neither works while NFC is off or missing: switch it on, or ask a manager or admin to clock you out. If the shift's times are wrong, tell your manager. See Forgotten clock-outs.

You already have a clock-in waiting for approval#

The message reads You already have a clock-in waiting for approval. Your manager needs to approve or reject it first.

Why you see it. An earlier clock-in of yours was sent to a manager and is not decided yet. That shift is already running: the Time clock shows Waiting for your manager to approve this clock-in. Your time is being recorded.

What to do. Nothing. Take your breaks and clock out as usual (on a phone without NFC, see above). If the manager rejects it, you can clock in again. See Clock-ins that wait for a manager's approval.

You already have a timesheet for that time#

The message says that this employee already has a timesheet covering part of that time.

Why you see it. Hours are already recorded for you for now or for the coming day and a half, for example an entry your manager added by hand.

What to do. Ask your manager or an admin to check your timesheet and to correct or remove the entry.

Other things that stop or hold a clock-in#

A short rest is not a refusal. Where your company has set a minimum rest between shifts and you clock in sooner, the clock-in is held for a manager. See Clock-ins that wait for a manager's approval.
