NFC tap to clock in

How the tag at your location works — and what to do if you do not have the app yet.

Many workplaces put an Atteny NFC tag by the door or the till. Holding your phone against it is the quickest way to clock in — you don't have to find the app first.

  1. 1

Hold your phone against the tag

With the screen on, hold the top of your phone flat against the tag for a second. Atteny opens on the Check In screen with your location already picked.

  2. 2

    Confirm the check-in

Confirm, and your shift timer starts. If your location also uses the optional location check, allow location access when your phone asks — see GPS checks.

  3. 3

Tap again to take a break or clock out

Tap the same tag while a shift is running and Atteny asks whether you want to start a break or end your shift. Choose one and you're done.

A tag only works for the location it belongs to. If you tap a tag at another site while a shift is running, Atteny tells you the tag is linked to a different location than your current shift.

If nothing happens

  • Android, NFC switched off — the Check In screen shows NFC Is Turned Off. Tap Open NFC Settings and switch NFC on.
  • Your phone has no NFC — you'll see NFC Not Available. Pick your location from the list on the Check In screen instead.
  • You'd rather start the scan yourself — open Check In, tap Scan NFC Tag, then hold your phone near the tag.

At some locations your admin has turned on Require NFC for clock-in. There, the tap is the only way in and the in-app button is blocked.

If you don't have the app yet

The tag opens a web page in your browser instead of the app. It says Open in Atteny with a button to launch the app, and Get the Atteny app below that, which takes you to the download page. Install Atteny, sign in, then tap the tag again.

Administrators register the tags for each location under Locations → Check-in. If a tag does nothing on any phone, ask your manager to check it there.
